Try 50 (new) beers from 50 different countries
So trying new beers is not something that's unfamiliar to me, so the challenge is to try a beer which I have not previously tried from a country do this for fifty different counties. With the variety that's out there I hope that it wont all be prominently lager clones made by Heineken. All beers are rated on Untappd.
1. America
Luckily I clocked this El Segundo beer at the Wee Beer Shop so it made the list and on account of the short shelf life, it was first up on the list and America was done. Not normally a DIPA drinker but can fully acknowledge this purchase was for novelty and nostalgia.
2. Canada
If my memory serves me well (not gonna bet on it) this could be my first craft beer from Canada. The wild ale by Trial & Ale brewing company was very good and ticked all the boxes and I was impressed with the flavour and more importantly the sourness. Picked up from RAD beer.
3. Ireland
Having never heard of a Grisette before it sparked my interest and I picked up this by Whiplash Brewery from Beer52. It is just a Farmhouse Ale in reality but easy to drink.
4. Spain
The name of this brewer Jakobsland Brewers initially suggested that it was a Scandinavian brewery but much to my surprise they are based in Spain. A fairly decent porter, easy to drink although it was a little watery for my tastes. Picked up from beer 52.
5. England
This stout from Neon Raptor Brewing Company was excellent. Definitely hot the Jaffa cake flavour brief. Highly recommended and as usual they did not disappoint in their stouts. Picked up from Hop Shop Aberdeen.
6. Wales
Up until 2023 I was a huge fan of Tiny Rebel Brewery and their Stay Puft/Sleigh Puft flavours. This year (2023) sadly it was a pretty weak showing and being honest its put me off going back and trying them next year. This was the best of the bunch but none of the four scored particularly highly for me on Untappd.
7. Norway
As usual the heavy hitting flavour and full bodied stout from Amundsen Brewery did not disappoint. One of my favourite breweries by far and their dessert in a can range is excellent. Picked up at Hop Shop Aberdeen.
8. Sweden
Omnipollo is another of my favourite brewers, this was Rauchbier, not something I had a any idea of what it was but it means smoked beer. It was pretty good. I like Omnipollo's take on brewing and trying to push the limits of flavour. Shame their beers are in smaller supply in the UK but always on the lookout for them.
9. Germany
Another pick up from the wee beer shop. This German Kellerbier from Mahrs Brau was quite frash and easy to drink. Nothing really ground breaking.
10. Czech Republic
A wee beer shop pick up from the Czech Republic brewers Rodinny pivovar Zichovec. Easy drinking as straightforward Pilsner. Very crisp and refreshing.
11. Austria
Something ironic about a Belgian Quadrupel being from Austria. Really enjoyed this.
12. Bulgaria
Not known for its craft beer brewing or unknown to me but this was really good from Alchemik, the flavours were all there and a nice bit of blueberry sourness.
Not my normal beer of choice a New England Hazy IPA but saw this on Beer52 from Strange brewing in Argentina.
Tolokazi beer picked up again from Beer52, Farmhouse Ales always have always been a bit hit or miss for me but this one was good.
15. Poland
I've always enjoyed Funky Fluid beers and this one was no different. The spice was there and definitely recommend this beer along with their other creations.
16. Latvia
I'd never heard of Arpus Brewing Company the mango in this really improved the flavour and made it more plateable.
France not known for their craft brewing or not to me at the time of writing but Prizm brewing. This was spot on with the flavours maple and coconut, two possible over powering flavours, highly recommended.
